Grant Manager for The Nehemiah Project: Strengthening Historic African American Congregations
JOB DESCRIPTION:
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is located at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (LPTS). The grant manager will be responsible for all aspects of the Lilly Endowment-Nehemiah Project: Strengthening Historic African American Congregations award grant management including financial administration and analysis. The Nehemiah Project is funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. The Nehemiah Project Funding period runs from January 2021 to December 2024 and operates under the guidance of LPTS Black Church Studies program. The purpose of the Nehemiah project is to strengthen a total of 14 congregations: 13 historic African American congregations and 1 historic non-black congregation. The candidate will work with 13 historically African American churches in predominately rural areas of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
REPORTS TO:
This position will report to the Congregational Consultant and the Project Senior Advisor.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Education- Bachelor’s degree required
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- Experience working with an accounting office
- Understands basic accounting principles including experience reconciling financial discrepancies by researching and correcting variance problems
- Prepare monthly financial reports for Nehemiah 14 congregational leadership teams
- Prepare cost reports and analyze and summarize information
- Assist with year-end closing process
- Keep financial information confidential
- Knowledge of spreadsheets and accounting principles, including developing a monthly budgeting and reporting system
- When we resume travel, the Grants Manager will organize all travel arrangements for the 4 leadership team members in each of the 14 congregations, all of which will require excellent organizational skills
- The grants manager will be the liaison between the 14 Leadership congregational leadership teams for all money matters
- 3 years minimum experience managing a grant with multiple constituencies and priorities
- (Preferred) experienced working with churches
- Become familiar with terms and conditions of the grant in order to effectively manage the grant
- Other assigned responsibilities to ensure that the grantee adheres to the terms and conditions of the grant

- Becomes familiar with terms and conditions of the grant in order to effectively manage the grant
- Articulates decisions made about the distribution of grant funds and maintain meticulous records
- Ability to operate desktop computers and laptops, calculator, photocopier machines, and Zoom meeting functions
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This is a full-time salaried position with benefits. The Grant Manager will set her/his own hours. The job will require working some evenings and weekends and may occasionally require travel to the churches which are located in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. During the current pandemic, the Grant Manager will work from home or a remote location of their choosing. LPTS offers PTO, health insurance, a retirement plan, and dental and vision insurance.
