Financial Aid Advisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary is looking for an experienced financial aid leader to join our team. Reporting the Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success, The Financial Aid Advisor oversees various financial operations and programs for students, including offering scholarships, facilitating, processing federal student loans, and determining eligibility for aid. This position works closely with the Department of Education and other agencies to maintain compliance with current regulations, implement mandated procedures and perform required reporting.

Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages processes to collect student financial information and determine eligibility for various types of financial aid – internal and external – and notifies students accordingly. Includes regular maintenance of school cost of attendance information.
  • Oversees projections of Seminary financial awards to students, calculates and posts awards to student accounts, and makes registration-related adjustments as necessary. Includes maintaining information on the life-cycles of Seminary scholarships and managing Bookends awards.
  • Meets with students to initiate student loans, providing them with information relevant to making responsible loan decisions, and processes them according to Department of Education guidelines and practices. Follows changes to DOE guidelines through professional membership and training opportunities.
  • Reviews scholarship methodology and works with Admissions to award scholarships to incoming students. Serves as a resource to students who apply for or receive non-Seminary scholarships and manages receipt of these awards.
  • Works with various offices, especially the Business Office and Institutional Advancement, to ensure relevant financial accounts are reconciled on schedule and that all financial aid processes are accurate as a part of annual audit.
  • Produces and provides information about student financial aid to various constituencies as needed.
  • Serves as liaison to governmental agencies with unique relationships to students, notably international (F-1 visa) students and veterans, and advises relevant students on matters relating to these relationships.
  • Assists the Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success with duties as needed or directed.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Commitment to the mission, values and success of Louisville Seminary.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in financial aid, administering scholarships/loan programs at an institution of higher learning
  • Knowledge of federal and accreditation compliance standards
  • A strong interest in working directly with students and families
  • Exceptional attention to detail; ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Student Information Systems
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Personal qualities of integrity and collegiality.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality, professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to promote and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with persons from diverse racial, cultural and religious backgrounds.

COMPENSATION:

Full-time, exempt position offering a full range of benefits, including 403B pension benefit, and health insurance.
