Description
The Master
of Divinity Double Competency Degree Program at Louisville
Seminary is designed to meet the needs of people who seek
to be fully accredited and authorized to practice an additional
profession as well as the ministry. The Double Degree program
also offers the Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy
with the Master of Arts in Religion, in addition to the option
with the Master of Divinity.
Each of
these degree components helps the student integrate biblical
study, theology, faith, and spirituality in theological work.
While only the Master of Divinity can lead to ordination,
each program offers a broad theological understanding to enhance
the student's Christian commitment in professional life and
work.
Double
Degree Options
The Double Competency
program at Louisville Seminary offers eight concentrations:
Throughout
the coursework in the Double Degree program, the student will
explore a deeper understanding of theology and scripture.
Double Degree graduates are well versed in many theological
disciplines. Graduates also are equipped to serve their churches
and communities as knowledgeable lay people while bringing
considerable spiritual expertise to other professions.
Double
Degree students work closely with faculty advisors who help
each student relate their studies to their future plans as
well as designing individual curricula.
Degree
Requirements
Most classes
are held during fall and spring semesters. Select courses
are offered during a January term and a summer term. The Double
Degrees in Theology and Social Work, and Law require 60 semester
hours of course credit at Louisville Seminary. The Master
of Arts in Religion and Master of Arts in Marriage and Family
Therapy requires between 90 and 96 total hours. The Master
of Divinity and Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy
is an intensive, four-and- one-half-year course of study that
combines previous course-work, pastoral work, and a selective
choice of electives.
